Prestwich Golf Club's hole in one for Hand on Heart

golf day photo 2

Prestwich Golf Club hosted a charity golf day on the 5th October and all funds raised from the event were split between Hand on Heart and Bury Hospice.  Club captain Barry Elliott and club Pro Mark Pearson presented our Fundraising Manager Andy Walker with a cheque of £500 from the day!

The competition was played in Stableford format with a shotgun start at noon.  The 13 teams entered into the competition were made up of past and present members of the club as well as representatives from businesses in the local area.  Businesses that entered teams into the competition included Armin Butler, St James Place, BT Local Business, Beechcroft Building Ltd, Rookwood Nursery and Bescoby Jewellers.

There were prizes for the top 3 placing based on the two best scores from the team.  First place prize of a golf bag for each member went to a team from Armin Butler, lead by team captain Clive Hastie.  Second place and individual golf shirts went to a team of past and present members, captained by Phil Jones.  Third place also went to a team from Armin Butler, lead by Paul Greasley, for which each member received a dozen Titleist golf balls.  There was also a ‘nearest the pin’ competition on the day on the 3rd, 15th and 18th hole won respectively by Phil Rampling, Matt Struminsky and Mike Scott.

270 children die at school each year as a result of suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) each week.  Treatment must be administered with the first 3 minutes following an arrest and the only effective treatment for SCA is CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  The standardised response times for ambulance services in the UK currently sit at 8-10 minutes so it imperative to have a defibrillator and staff trained to use onsite.

Our project manager Gina Harris went along to the event and said: “It was great to raise awareness about the charity, what we do and the dangers of SCA.  We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity and support from the club and the teams and would like to say a big thank you to all involved!”  Gina also managed to raise another £100 on the day by sales of wristbands!
