Watch the online video clip filmed at St. Teresa's Primary School in Irlam last Friday and described how we provided the defibrillator to the school, why they are vital pieces of safety equipment and what we are doing in wake of the death of Ciaran Geddes, 7, who died due to a sudden cardiac arrest in Warrington in April.
Ciaran's death has raised a lot of awareness of the issue of cardiac arrest in young people in the North West and we want to use this awareness to provide defibrillators to every secondary school in Warrington.
The clip includes our trainer Andy Walker showing pupils at St. Teresa's how a defibrillator works as well as one of the school's teachers describing how the programme works. When Hand on Heart provides a defibrillator school, we also provide CPR training for staff members, show them how to use the defibrillator and provide Basic Life Support lessons to the pupils.
Watch the BBC video on defibrillators in schools.
It is vital that schools have defibrillators to try and prevent 270 children dying every year at school. 80% of these cases occur in people with no previously diagnosed heart conditions, so it is imperative that schools are prepared for the unexpected.
Hand on Heart encourages local businesses and fundraisers to club together to raise enough money to buy a defibrillator for a local school. Although we raise money for schools all over the country, we are currently working on a large project in Warrington. We need to raise £21,000 to provide defibrillators and CPR training to every secondary school in Warrington so please help us and show your support!
